General Trias is an inland city straddling the north-eastern part of the province of Cavite. It is bounded by different municipalities and cities such as Kawit, Dasmariñas, Silang, Tanza to name a few. It is only 32 kilometers southwest of Manila allowing fast access to the nation’s capital through Governor’s Drive, the main provincial artery, and Cavitex.
The city is originally known as San Francisco de Malabon or “Malabon” after its patron saint, St. Francis of Assisi. The name was later on changed to General Trias in honor of Gen. Mariano Trias, the first de facto Philippine Vice President of the revolutionary government established at the Tejeros Convention. Likewise, the marching band that first played the national anthem in Kawit, Cavite is a continuing legacy in the city and is most popularly called as “Banda Matanda.”
Formerly an agricultural town, General Trias has made remarkable progress in the last few decades. It has grown to become one of the leading municipalities in the nation, known for its progressive economy through the steady growth of industries and real estate developments. As “A New Frontier for Development in CALABARZON,” it has been a home for major industrial estates, such as Gateway Business Park, a world-class business community, the New Cavite Industrial City (NCIC), and a part of the Cavite Export Processing Zone (CEPZ), which accommodates big names in various industries such as Purefoods Hormel Corp., Maxim Philippines Operating Corp., San Miguel Corp., Magnolia Inc., Unilever Foods Phils. Inc., among others.
In 2015, through Republic Act 10675, the first-class municipality of General Trias was converted into the country’s 145th city, which paved the way to the establishment of the DepEd Division of General Trias City. This medium-sized division in the province of Cavite was officially endorsed last June 2018 and began its full operation in October and became the 21st Schools Division Office in Region IV-A CALABARZON.
General Trias has also been recognized for its commitment to quality and excellence in public service. In September 2019, the city was awarded the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) certification. This prestigious certification demonstrates the city’s adherence to international standards of quality management, ensuring efficient and effective processes in delivering public services. The implementation of ISO 9001:2015 has helped streamline operations, improve service delivery, and increase customer satisfaction.
